On a day affected by school holidays only 4 riders turned up at todays Go-Ride session @ Brodick Park.
Elspeth and myself were the only available coaches as everyone else had committments elsewhere.
The session started with a warm up, mainly on the bike with some running incorporated to make sure the riders were well prepared for the main session which focused on balance, cornering and mount / dismount, most things we had done before but with a different slant on the technique.
We did some repeat cornering concentrating on 'wide in, narrow out' and acceleration out the corners and also some repeat mount / dismounts. We also did some running with the bike using different methods of control e.g. handlebars, sadlle which the kids found easy once they'd mastered the art of balance, seniors should try this some time!
We finished off the session with a timed one lap time trial round the park then a handicap two lap race incorporating the session skills.
A quick review and cool down and it was all over for another week. The kids are really looking forward to their first taste of Go-Racing at Misterton on 22 August - should be good fun.
Next session @ Brodick Park is on 31 July 2-3 pm, all standards aged 8-16 welcome, just need a bike, helmet, drink and a parent. |
